Los macrófagos son células especializadas que participan en la detección, fagocitosis y destrucción de bacterias y otros organismos nocivos. Además, también pueden presentar antígenos a las células T e iniciar la inflamación liberando moléculas (conocidas como citoquinas) que activan otras células.
Los macrófagos migran y circulan por casi todos los tejidos, patrullando en busca de patógenos o eliminando células muertas.
Macrophages are specialized cells involved in the detection, phagocytosis and destruction of bacteria and other harmful organisms. In addition, they can also present antigens to T cells and initiate inflammation by releasing molecules (known as cytokines) that activate other cells.
Macrophages migrate and circulate in almost all tissues, patrolling for pathogens or eliminating dead cells.
